Echoes
In the darkness of the night
when tranquillity should be restored
Anxiety rises and swells
anguish that cannot be ignored
Depriving me of sleep and rest
refusing to be kept at bay
Trapped in the bleak cavern of my head
negative thoughts ricochet
Flashbacks replay on repeat
thundering roar to distant rumble
Sharp reminders of hurt and shame
fade into a nagging grumble

Just Chillin!
Passers by stop to look and stare
they take lots of photos of me
Perhaps they think I’m cute
or I’m something unexpected to see
I thought I would rest here for a while
take a break from climbing trees
Just sit minding my own business
chillin in the Mexican breeze
I didn’t set out be a star
never wanted to be that way
Now I find I’m the main attraction
