its summer now
but each night i wait until dark
and creep outside for a cigarette
feel the timeless cascade of the moon on my skin
across the road i made a friend
another bright orange glow
the end of a cigarette
up high in a window
distant but comforting
what part of my life would they join me in
was this late night associate to become my new lover
my new mother
