A Kind Of Splendour

It had gone from your eyes when you saw me

The light that used to adore me

It dimmed to a mist in the forest

Where a canopy of leaves once fell for us

They fell like colourful snow

As we laughed & danced in its flow

Wondering if we could stay there forever

Thinking life was full of this splendour

But, time came & took you away

And the only thing that I could say

Was nothing at all, I just let you fall

Gave complacency years to come call

I never thought of those leaves as dying

Did they fall from the canopy crying?

Did they already know of our fate

Of the void that time would create?

The forest had been set alight

Crying embers into the night

Yet, new trees & leaves slowly grew

For the sun & the moon to shine through

Now, both broken, here we stand

As your hand brushes my hand

There's a familiar light  in your eyes

A kind of splendour, proving love never dies.
