Paperback Writer

entry picture

He’ll write a hundred pages in a day

And work from dawn to dusk without a stop;

Especially when deadlines start to loom,

The level of his output will not drop.

Maintaining his plush lifestyle will depend

On such unsparing episodes of work;

He tears a plot from deep inside his mind

And in a month is signing with a smirk.

Then it is time to rest and to enjoy

The benefits which come with his success;

He reaps his share of lovers and their charms

And tries to keep at bay the gutter press.

Half-dozing in his villa by the sea,

He dreams he hears the cash tills in a store;

The bags of riches sail across the waves

And wash up underneath him on the shore.

It's a fair point, RG. I'm sure one of mine fell into that category! And thanks to Graham, John and Tim for the comments, and to everyone who liked this.

I think I see another pulp fiction here

I had a buck in me once.
Hang on. I think I’ve misunderstood.

I admire anyone who has had the tenacity to finish writing a book, however mediocre it is received.

They say there's a book in everyone, I'm not so sure. Often they are self-published vanity projects, and often dreary.
