Our Gert

entry picture

(...so I says to The Temptations, "If you can use it, use it".)

I’ve got Sunblest for my snap today

But if I protest I get it everyday;

I hear you say

“Why don’t you just get away?”

From Our Gert

I’m talkin’ ‘bout Our Gert.

When it’s cold outside she sends me out to play;

When it hot inside , it’s “Paint the passageway”

I hear you say

“You must honour and obey”

Our Gert

I’m talkin’ ‘bout Our Gert.

I had so much money for my fags and booze

Now you’ll think it’s  funny – she’s spent it on her shoes

I hear you say,

“Is she Hyacinth Bucket?”

Our Gert

I’m talkin’ ‘bout Our Gert.

I picked her hollyhocks; she said the flowers were dead

I bought her Dairy Box; she wanted Mars instead

I can’t do right for wrong

But…

…my love is just as strong

For Our Gert

I’m talkin’ ‘bout Our Gert.

To borrow from another great song...
"When will I hear you again...?"
Finger-plucking good!
