Hiya Stephan/Paticia. I haven't posted a list of competition entries yet - I was going to leave it till end of June cos it seemed quite slow to kick off and I know that a few people said they were writing something.

Often there's virtually nothing between 1st 2nd and 3rd. We may get a reasonable number of entries but far fewer people vote. I wouldn't worry about whether it's worse or better than anything else - it's just great to see how different minds tackle a theme. I'm really happy with what we've got so far :) x

I imagined it was someone who took their own life - and the 'from a high window' became that much more poignant because it had that double meaning. I think the title is perfect for that reason.

Thanks for your comment on my 52 Hertz entry Isobel. I actually changed the title as the original didn't much match the theme of the competition. I like to think of it as someone gazing out below at a vast expanse; be it wide plain, moor, or - indeed - ocean ;)

We had 16 audience members and performers this month and an excellent guest slot from Pete Slater.

Feedback:

Great people, nice and relaxed, I'm wonderful, relaxed, poetry uncensored, good poems, nice venue, great poems, great performers, great cakes, purr-fect, very good meeting, outstanding, great as usual, brilliant as per, great variety.

Early start is difficult for travel, early start makes travelling from afar difficult, shoot quiz mic man lol, too many stairs, not enough exits, bigger cakes, noise from downstairs, not enough expletives, a bigger audience.

Yay - thanks for taking part David! I love the way you have let your imagination roam with this one - unless of course you ARE that man from a high window ;

'The noontide skyscape hangs heavily
Like fog crafted from artists’ hands'

sets the scene beautifully for the story that unfolds. I imagine scenes like this one are played out across the world - and that they leave behind the same sad conversations.

I like the title very much also - it leaves something to the imagination.

Thanks Isobel. Yes, I did see it as a bit of a rom/com poem. I guess I was trying to enter into the spirit for the competition, but really didn't see it in the same league as the excellent entries so far (no pun intended!)

Glad you enjoyed "As Sure As God's In Gloucester", MC. I'd never been until a few weeks ago and was very impressed, particularly with its history and architecture. The £3 walking tour of the city was excellent value.
Re the tombs of former monarchs, Edward 11 is buried there, of course, along with Robert, the eldest son of William the Conqueror.

Many thanks for commenting on "As Sure As God's In Gloucester", Dave. I'd never been until a couple of weeks ago. It's certainly worth a day or two's visit for anyone with an interest in history.
Re "Double Gloucester", the locals will tell you it's like "New York, New York" - so good they named it twice.

As ever your critique is bang 'on the money'...but try as I might I feel the tinge of purple is never the less integral.

I've performed this poem both ways to the middle and just feel that the over adjectivised version suits my ear....rather than the page...wherein you are correct.
