Hi Shirley
I am glad you find our site worth putting your information on; you and thousands of others per month.
However, given all the effort and time that goes into making the site what it is, I am not sure we would appreciate its contents then being copied onto someone else's site, which is why we make that a condition of use. How about setting up a link to this page - http://www.writeoutloud.net/public/blogentry.php?blogentryid=23949 and/or to www.writeoutloud.net on Scott's site?
I hope the book goes well.

Evening, David. How are you? Here's you, me and Mr Black all indoors on a Saturday night. Ah well. I did Hamlet at A level, so I know all about country matters, so to speak. Although, come to think of it, when I was that age ... never mind. I think quite a few people would know the reference - I'd hope so anyway! - and so I feared italicising it maybe overdoes the double entendre. Small thing, but you're right, I don't like italics. I always take them out of copy if they'e just there for emphasis.

Good to hear from you again,Greg. Have you been under the radar the last week or so? Thanks for comment. 'Country matters' is a double entendre (based on its first syllable) quoted from Shakespeare, so I thought it needed to be in italics - but you're the editor! I must confes thatI do get a bit confused about when or when not to use them.

Thanks Shirley for your nice comment on my Drift Reservoir poem - I think the swan's death was accidental, maybe due to some sort of fishing line or something. Reservoirs do seem to be popular with fishermen. Perhaps I should have reported it? I didn't think of that till I read your comment.

Very descriptive.
A little sad.
It seems someone killed the swan for sport.
Nice photo.
Good writing.

Izz is right - judging was very difficult (my first experience), because the poems and performances were so good. Certainly by local standards. I also liked the atmosphere - very friendly despite the competitive element. More enjoyable than I expected tbh. Julian was a good compere and Joy was fun on the horn!!

That's one of my favourite photos of the night. The poem was about an injured bird, hence the positioning of Louise's hands. Great that you managed to capture that, Darren. Photography is indeed an artform.

The two voices seem to me to be a woman looking at herself from the outside (as others see her) and then expressing how she feels (from the inside.) Not sure about Nev the Rev - made me think of Midsummer Murders for some reason! But I like the poem.

Tried free verse, but never sure if the reader is `getting` it.

Sometimes it performs well, voice (like the pictures sometimes) overpowering the words.

The final test is the words on the page, read down the page for what is meant...in other words: does it work, bit like comedy - if they laugh, you`re a comedian!

indeed Lynn
it is those who have paid in all their lives
and the shoddy way they are treated
that causes people to be so angry.

what a shambles!

I thought of a modern day Joan of Arc, punishing her lungs with cigarettes, a martyr to some lost cause.

It isn't an easy poem to follow - there seem to be two voices - or at least disconnected thought. I enjoyed it though Stella - it is an interesting read and those last 4 lines carry a powerful punch.

Well I'm most surprised you didn't get him to rap one off John... riding on a tyre swing is quite tame by your standards.

Your story works well as an analogy for unrequited love. The picture of him sat alone at the end is such a sad one though.
