Hi Isobel, I enjoyed the 'strange comfort' atmosphere. I like the concept, it evoked a feeling of a gateway to someone by means of emoticon, if that makes sense. Its gentle, feels calm

Francine, I think that really the urge to round up to one hundred is the biggy that would be the aspect of human nature that, if I had to pick just one and say despise all human nature for this one reason alone, that would probably be it.

What i absolutely love about this place - nobody said that it reminds Emily Dickinson ( practically the only poet that I know).Artists and amateur artists are not like that - if they give you a compliment it's always accompanied with "it looks like Degas( Monet, Soutine) :-)))

Lots of interesting concepts, not sure about the poem, Mr Shrodinger. The numbers never add up, and time is just a an artificial construct anyway. Telomeres don't tie your life up, they just stop it from going wonky round the edges (some of us less effectively than others!); and a future tied to tealeaves ... are you trying to say you just gotta picka pocket or two? If you keep on looking for meaning in the completely arbitrary you'll end up finding god you know! ... and THEN where will you be?

Thanks for the link Ann - yes it did go on a bit - I guess sometimes you just have to be there! It is good to see old traditions being kept alive though. So much of our culture is now influenced by American TV.
I had a good bank holiday anyway - for once made a trip South that didn't involve painful traffic jams each way. Perhaps the bad weather put people off travelling!

I'm sorry for not giving you more notice about the new rules for WOLOP Cynthia - I just suddenly realised that there wouldn't be enough voters to run it properly this month. I would hate any effort you have gone to, to go to waste, though. Hi I hope 'On The Front' makes some kind of sense. I didn't realise it was such hard going! I like 'A Time That Glowed' a lot. The title for a start is intriguing and it's full of telling detail. The final couplet is very strong. Yes, great about he book and the fact I can draw a line under stuff that's been knocking around so long.

Chris, Ann, Cynthia, thanks for these comments on this one. I apologise for using the blogs as a virtual workspace as opposed to posting the finished product, but for some reason it works that way for me, it only makes sense once i hit the post button. Its almost like there is a barrier that is only lifted once posted, not sure why. I always wanted to share my ideas, a form of confessional therapy, from the earliest age. I suppose its the same for many of us, it must be a challange to write for 'an exercise' how can we write without an emotional connection to the subject. I think there is a debate / thread on this.

i think ill stick with the 'puree' word and have removed 'decompose' though it is close to 'compote', intersting Ann that you used the word 'Jar' (which i agreed with 'decompose' did 'Jar' ) but also it connects with 'Jar..of...' like a jam jar, as I always thought emotions quite like jam in a jar, sweet, messy, screwed down, lid on emotion etc......

other poets have used the idea, I think Donalds Maple Syup was one.

Wow, Pete, line after line presses on with vital, fresh ideas and gripping images. 'Grotesques and gargoyles' captured my attention immediately, and 'permafrosted problems' grabbed me totally. The rest of the poem just continued to command total commitment.

Really good, Val. It's an honest topic to hit head on. You have highlighted so many tensions that a little mutual respect would circumvent. I, myself, don't think that many of these relationship crises are actually forgiven, let alone forgotten. In my opinion, toleration isn't really happiness.

Ann, this is very good. The theme is consistent, well supported with some original imagery: 'like a homoerotic missile' is excellent. I make one suggestion: 'zooming through the water' might be better, with the repeated 'oo' sound actually simulating the idea of swift, lean motion. And, perhaps, more accurate. As always, just a thought.

Thanks Greg. A friend drew my attention to a story a couple of weeks ago of a bus driver in Birmingham who'd been sacked for reading a book whilst driving his bus.A passenger posted a clip on You Tube.I was sort of challenged to write about it. I'd love to know what he was reading!Probably not On The Road!I have this idea now of performing it using cardboard signs with shop names on like Dylan did with Subterranean Homesick Blues.

Ray, I loved this. I think that all poets must have attention deficit disorders, or else they'd miss so much going on around them. As you certainly haven't in this poem. You virtually provide a video with it, so many sights seen out of the window. And as for the bus driver reading On The Road ...!

howya cynth, thanks for the comments again, i enjoy the fact you always question them, it gives me a chance to describe the content clearly, as reguards to decidious embracement, the general theme is the alienation of new begginings, decidious implys that every welcome eventually decays, i know that sounds horribly emo but i refuse to censor myself on the grounds of stereotype. I feel anguish belonged to the poet long before the emo and therefore we have the right to convey it without generalisation.
