evening at the tide

Evening Benediction at the Tide

The tide returns in sculpted prayers

over broken shells,

etching covenant beneath gull-scarred skies.

I press my palm to driftwood—

a liturgy in grain, fibers carved by centuries

of salt and forgiveness.

Salt water heals old fractures in the stones,

and on their ancient skin I lay down my grief,

each wave a footnote of mercy.

Bless this shore with memory’s quiet grace,

that what we cast away may rise again

in the arc of dawn’s unbroken promise.

Good morning Red,
What a marvellous and deeply meaningful poem.
There’s such quiet power in the way you weave grief, nature, and healing into something almost sacred. I was especially moved by “each wave a footnote of mercy”—what a beautiful image of gentle, ongoing grace. Thank you for sharing something so reflective and tender. It truly lingers.
Cheerio,
Rolph

A beautiful poem RBK.
You write:
"Salt water heals old fractures in the stones,"

I blink through my tears as I write this, having just watched videos about children and babies being shot and starved to death in Gaza, with the complicity of my government.

If only the salt in my tears could heal those poor babies.💗
