her constellations

entry picture

"her constellations"

Her constellations are bite-sized galaxies of feeling,

each cluster a starfield guiding fingertips

across cool stone beneath the rush of night air.

Lantern in the fog” becomes Polaris—

steady beacon anchoring a mind adrift

amid distant buzzle of restless streets.

Swipe, scroll, tap—

three morning prayers in digital chord,

mapping the relentless chase

of dawnless days and restless nights.

At midnight’s zenith we stood on our rooftop,

your palm warm against the granite ledge,

our breaths mingling like twin dawns.

High peaks glint in verse, oceans breathe in meter—

the Pleiades’ glimmer beckoning us

toward wonder’s uncharted edge.

Ellipses wink like shooting stars—

each pause a promise of light

yet to be revealed—

and dashes carve pathways through silent skies.

—

Together, they form a sky-born invitation:

a living map of longing and awakening

where every reader discovers their own

horizons waiting to be explored.

That's an excellent memory, Uilleam 🌷mine was of onion skin (tracing) paper where I'd plot the constellations with a pencil and then gaze up and try to match them to the sky. With my daughter though, we got an app which actually worked like a compass except for star and constellation locations. live... that was interesting.🕊️🙏🏻

I remember, as a six or seven year old, gazing at the stars through my bedroom window, on clear, frosty nights, having been fascinated by what I'd learned on the cards about "the constellations" contained in packets of tea; and I had a booklet in which I could stick them! Which image.....?

This poem weaves phrases like “lantern in the fog,” “glinting peaks,” and “breathing seas” into a night sky of emotion and discovery. It’s an invitation to chart our own inner constellations.
