Elbits n’ Pieces R Us [All your childrens’ needs supplied]

entry picture

A UNICEF report dated 27th May 2025 gave the number of children killed or injured in the Gaza Strip alone as more than 50,000 Fifty Thousand - God knows what it is now; the juxtaposition of the images of a School Bus and a Battle Waggon is horrifically appropriate.

Off to hell in a handcart the U.K. goes,

the U.K. goes, the U.K. goes:

let the bodies pile high; to learn from history we’re slow,

so deep the blood now flows.

Our Public Service wheels are coming off,

coming off, coming off,

they won’t tax the rich who’ve got more than enough,

now the emperor is in the buff.

But his battle-waggon wheels still spin so fast,

spin so fast, spin so fast,

pig’s snouts are in the trough; here it’s warfare first,

and welfare last!

The cops come knocking on our doors at dead of night,

dead of night, dead of night,

say we’re terrorists for protesting genocide,

what bullshite!

Still, the clown behind the wheel keeps turning right,

turning right, turning right:

while genocide’s OK, our human rights are set alight,

his might is right!

His battle-waggon wipers go “swish, swish, swish,

swish, swish, swish: swish, swish, swish”,

as they wipe away the blood of Gaza’s women and kids,

the devil’s arse he’ll kiss!

Elbits n’ Pieces, they make jigsaws,

big jigsaws and little jigsaws,

they make ‘em out o’ little bits of girls and boys,

they’re so good and make no noise!

The lads from Akrotiri help’em get it right

from high up in the sky it’s a loverly sight,

as from out of starvin’ kids they knock the livin’ daylights,

congrats to dear old Blighty!

Yes, to hell in a handcart the U.K. goes,

the U.K. goes, the U.K. goes:

let the bodies pile high; to learn from history we’re slow,

so deep the blood now flows.

Dear Uilleam,
Your poem “Elbits n’ Pieces R Us” is a striking and uncompromising critique that masterfully blends sharp irony with poignant imagery. The clever wordplay on “Elbit Systems,” “Bits and Pieces,” and the playful nod to “Toys ‘R’ Us” transforms a corporate name into a haunting metaphor for the shattered lives of children in Gaza. The repeated contrasts—between school buses and battle wagons, welfare and warfare—resonate deeply, exposing the brutal realities hidden behind political rhetoric. Your use of repetition intensifies the sense of relentless tragedy and political negligence, making the poem not only a lament but a powerful call to awareness.

Your poem doesn’t just describe pain — it demands that we face uncomfortable truths and question the systems that allow such horrors to continue. It’s a courageous and necessary voice in times when too many turn away. Thank you for giving language to these urgent issues with such fierce clarity.
Take care, keep on writing,
regards,
Rolph

Hi Uilleam.

Clever piece, if it were not for the sickening true details.
How low will these imps of Satan go?

I wonder, while hoping with every fibre of my mind, heart and soul that we won't, still be reading about these ongoing atrocities in many years from now?

Or will those bastards have killed the whole population of Gaza by then? don't hold your breath!

Thanks for this piece, don't stop putting the boot in!

Kind regards my friend 👍
