Dear Marla,
I just read your poem "A Mother's Life," and I wanted to take a moment to thank you for its quiet power. In just a few lines, you've captured something profound—the enduring impact of a mother’s presence, choices, and legacy. The metaphor of ripples reaching the sea is beautifully chosen; it speaks to how even small moments of love, struggle, or influence can extend far beyond what we can see.
Your poem reminded me that motherhood is both a responsibility and a force—one that can shape lives across generations. Whether intentional or not, you've created something that invites reflection, compassion, and perhaps even healing.
Thank you for sharing it.
Regards,
Rolph

Well done, Graham. Not sure that I would have the nerve to stand up and do this. Fine poem that you chose, too.

I saw it with Paula Wilcox once, John. A few weeks later I saw Tom Conti on stage and someone yelled out 'Costas!' as he came on.
'No, I'm waiting till they write the play!'

I have a few ideas for something on canvas. Might be a bit before I get to work on it, though...
Thanks for looking in, David.
And, thanks to all for reading.

Don't say even a word!
When they are sad.
Your words don't fly, they aren't birds.
Don't say a word when you are glad.
The birds can sing without the words.
Don't say even a word!!
When they don't care.
They don't see the tears and your cries.
They don't care if you say it's not so fair
If you tell them the truth or some lies.
Don't say even a word!
When they don't think.
It's not your problem at all.
You'd better drink the juice!
Or go to an interesting ball.
Don't say even a word!
When they shout!
They only need a sacrifice.
They are not sure; they doubt.
You can hear only their cries.
Don't say even a word!
When their tongue is poisoned.
Your aims are not so clear.
You have many questions, thousands.
They are afraid of the dear.
Don't say even a word!
When the war is with evil.
You have to wish the piece.
You have to fight with only the devil.
And love is only one thing you release.

Fabulous David. The simplicity and innocence of the rhyming structure only serves to enhance the hypocrisy of the content. A force majeure.

Thanks for your kind comment Yanma,
Kneecap have done a lot of good work for people on both sides of the religious "divide" on the island of Ireland.
They they fought for, and succesfully applied for a sum of money from the UK government, donating the proceeds to good causes on both sides of the politico/religious "divide". For that, they are resented by some politicians, who have a vested interest in fostering division.

Thankyou Reggie and Uilleam for the comments and to those who have sent likes.
I do enjoy Betjeman Reggie, many people dislike his rhyme and his sentimentalism. I could listen to his readings and some of the BBC recordings he made over and over, and have.
Like many things from bygone era's poerty can be seen as a yearning for times past and as such be associated with practices completely unassociated with their meaning. It is unfortunate that such attitudes can diminish the readership of some valued work.
This poem is somewhat different in tone from Betjeman's lyrical observations.
Thanks again,
David RL Moore

I think some of the people involved in running our theatres need to get their priorities sorted out.
At our local theatre, the cafe and bars have been spared no expense and countless months have been spent on "enlarging" god knows what?
Unfortunately, the acoustics remain as bad as ever, leading to people walking out because their enjoyment of otherwise good productions has been ruined.
And I for one, risk needing an appointment with a physio after a couple of hours spent in the balcony, craning my neck in order to be able to be able to see parts of in- the-round productions.
.........................Sort it please!
