This is very touching, and the structure holds it together very well. It also deals with the difficult problem of how much reflection is necessary in life, when it leads to truth and when it prevents one from seeing it. The poem may suggest that the path is through reflection to where it's no longer necessary, and I'd agree with that.

Interesting thoughts, MC.
The idea was prompted by something I heard on the wireless a couple of months ago. A woman was in exactly this situation and faced this dilemma. Ultimately she decided against but which of us could have cast a stone if she had decided otherwise.
A hypothetical question for almost all of us but very real for thousands of families.

An important issue that perhaps only a site like this - and a voice unafraid to ask - can address.
Parental love should never be associated with thoughts and
actions in keeping with pure sexual gratification by the
sexually aware. It seems somehow entirely logical that
such a scenario should meet no cries of outrage or
indignation if posed in a country like France - or even
Italy - where family is so much more than just a word.
In a less cruel world, such a lad ill-used by nature would
(no nod/wink intended) receive a helping hand from
others possessing an instinctive rapport allied to the

I've just looked at my personal poetry blog and am astonished to find that I have written 64 poems this last year, double that of 2014.
Personally I think that is good going, perhaps a few too many.

On www.hellopoetry.com blog there is a corner for poets who have interest for the aforementioned tendency.They write things freely.No one contradicts them.By the same token they must not also be irritated when someone that doesn't buy their idea writes something that runs contrary to their interest,which has not yet got worldwide(dictionary) acceptance.

Great poem Shirley, evocative of the misty, murky cradle of the industrial revolution !! It also harks back to a time when the factories were full of workers and the 'T' word hadn't destroyed our industrial base. I can feel the atmosphere, I have pictures, real and in my mind. I remember the gas lights, just about, and my mother working in a mill, just like dad did, with fatal consequences for him !!

I somehow missed this.

I tried reading it as a short story, but It`s stanza form and first section of scene-setting, and second section primarily of dialogue makes it a very definite - and effective - poetic account of the an increasingly emerging problem of longevity.

I waffle on a bit about the effect of the novel on poetry and I wonder if this might be a good example. It is very what the theorists call `readerly` in that it compels the reader to follow what is being put down (and doesn`t use
any `difficult` metaphor)

I particularly liked the pathos of that last stanza.

It is a real attention-holder.

Thanks Ray. Words came easy but a very hard one to blog. Eddie Hazel - Maggot Brain. First listen, made me stand still, was compelled to find out more. Apparently, he was told to play like his mother had just died on this track. Second listen, Mr H is a genius and plays grief on his guitar. No words could ever express what he expresses on that track. Scribble went down as I listened second time round.

Why do you consider the argument a slog ?

Writeoutloud.com is a platform for promoting readership and authorship of poetry and widening horizons of thinking.

We must not confine our attention to soft issue like romance as the saying goes "Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker!"
Why do you evade answering my question to the dictionary meaning of perversion?Does the 21th century beg for a new dictionary?

I have no intention of offending people.Far be it from me harming the feelings of others.

Referring dictionaries, show me a better rhyming word with some what an equivalent meaning.I am willing to learn.

If African leaders are found guilty of despotic acts by African courts, I see no reason why they should not be held accountable.By the same token leaders from developed countries must be held accountable for the blunders they commit.
The second stanza slams democracy in the east while the first democracy in the west.I tried to be fair.No complaint has come from the east in my poetryblogs on which I posted this poem.
I am not arguing for the sake of arguing.If new trends are coming we have to redefine words and terminologies.

The floor is open for discussion.I want to hear more advice.If I am wrong I am willing to be corrected.
I am not judgemental,for the judge is God the Almighty.

the above is not a poem. it is opinion piece delivered in order to evoke the very comments that i, sadly, am now participating in.

despite my limited knowledge of african politics (i am sure you know more having lived/living there) i do know that robert mugabe was responsible (or partly so) for the slaughter of tens of thousands of human beings. this does not mean, of course, that agreeing with one of his policies/ opinions makes you a fan of genoicde.

however, anyone who sees homosexuality as a perversion in the 21st century will come across deeply flawed to the vast majority of, shall we say, slightly more 'learned' people.

i respect your views on your country and your outlook on life but i'm afraid you must be prepared for the inevitable backlash when you post things online with the sole purpose of inciting negative feedback.

i'm fully aware that most people have an answer for everything nowadays, and that this comment is indeed an answer from myself. however, i will not be awaiting further comment on this piece, as i come to this site for poetry and feedback, not offensive Victorian outlooks.

merely my opinion mind you.
