I'll take the random moments of drowning in love just so I can remember the awesome feeling of loving and being loved, no matter how brief and how much heartache is involved.

Thank you Dorothy! Sometimes I think my poems should be longer, but if the point can get across in less lines, I'm ok with that. I appreciate you reading and leaving feedback. ?

Love this. We often don't understand encounters until hindsight sheds some light. But, for a fleeting moment, hope reigned supreme and life had a surreal meaning. Perhaps, that's reason enough. Thanks for sharing! ❤

Brian - the proof of your point lies in the number that obtained power in Eastern
Europe whereas their right-wing equivalent emerged in lands to the west, like Spain, Portugal - and across the ocean in South America, oddly enough by and large strongly Roman Catholic nations.

After my 24/7 firewatch over the LMS Rollercoaster (just a bit smoky and me rather tired) I had it examined by the RSB (Rollercoaster Safety Board) just as an extra precaution. They assured me everything was hunky dory and that the wheels were not going to fall off.(I even have paperwork). You will understand this possibility would obviously scare off anyone considering joining LMS.

I agree with you, MC. The point I was making is that pensions funding is generational. NI contributions from the working, fund the pensions of the retired. The proof of this is that when pensions were introduced in 1909 they were paid with immediate effect. Recipients had never paid pensions contributions during their working lives. The working population paid for them.
My follow-up on the Ovaltineys theme will be “We Are Millennial Snowflakes”.
Thankyou for the “Likes”, Tom, Brian and Itsjustme.

A working life spent paying the financial income demands required by government in various forms amounts to "contributing"...past, present
and future...in the wider sense. It is for government to decide how to
administer these "fees for working" - but anything that achieves a balance between what is taken and what is paid out is the most desirable outcome. Living longer is not necessarily a drain, as can
be seen from those in later years who are often working on as a
matter of choice, not because they are required to do so. Indeed,
older workers are increasingly valued for their self-reliance, self-confidence and pride in what they do....even when we see the march
of the machine taking over various occupations that previously kept
certain lives in employment. Again, the trick is keeping the balance.
Don't governments have a department devoted to employment? As for ongoing
contributions, the last time I looked i was
being taxed on my pension - so that is
part of the continuiing fund towards
keeping the balance. At least - I like to think so!

Hello Don - am I right in recalling you mentioning Adelaide as your
part of the world? I've just been watching the cycle race Tour Down
Under on Freesport TV here in the UK - featuring the countryside
around Adelaide. A big event in a big country, given big attention.
AND won by a certain big name: Richie Porte. Hurrah!

Tom...I know what you're saying, though I suspect you're referring to the right wing types. But they exist on the other side as well. It's up to us to listen to both sides then make our choice.

It never fails to surprise me that a few negative words can have such a big influence on people, especially the young who purport to be free thinkers. Thankfully we are starting to see a bullish, positive attitude emerging.

Hi Hannah, welcome to WoL! Some great works you've shared here. love your use of language and the pursuit of the avoidance of cliché is something I wholeheartedly support! I also like the idea of the of the title being separate to the words themselves; it's not something I always do myself but I really like the idea of using the title as a key to unlock the poem. Really looking forward to more of your work. Tom.

ThanksMC. The “contribution” only determines how much you get. It does not fund it. Our contributions funded pensioners before us. Just as what we receive as pension is funded by those currently in work.
And occupational schemes like we enjoyed are no longer what they were.
With the workforce getting smaller, the best solution to the problem is for us to die earlier.

Ah - how the melody takes me back...a nice change when everything
seems to be hurtling forward! This is fun - with the added "relish"
of realism to flavour its taste.
Remember, remember the age-wise solution
It all comes down to "contribution"!

Ha...if only! We could do with a little less customer survey stuff. that's for sure. The fact that someone buys your stuff should be
enough reward for any business.
I become annoyed when I buy something online and am immediately
pursued for "seller feedback". And after that comes the request (demand?) for a "product review". Who needs it?! ? They should
be happy that I made the purchase in the first place! It is all too
easy (and they seem too dumb to realise it) for customer satisfaction
to become customer irritation.
